Oppa Gundam Style

ree

Gundam has been a massive franchise for many years spanning across many different platforms and media. Whether you first experienced it through the anime, manga, video games, or just think giant mechs are cool (they totally are by the way), Bandai has given fans and newcomers alike a new way to dive into the Gundam universe with Gundam Card Game.

Starter Deck Lineup

On July 11, 2025 Bandai released a set of four starter decks each having their own color combinations and Gundam eras.

  • Heroic Beginnings [ST01] (Blue + White): Features Mobile Suit Gundam and The Witch from Mercury focusing on repairing units.

  • Wings of Advance [ST02] (Green + Blue): Focuses on Gundam Wing and resource ramping.

  • Zeon’s Rush [ST03] (Red + Green): Highlights Zeon forces from Mobile Suit Gundam and Unicorn focusing on aggro.

  • SEED Strike [ST04] (White + Red): Centers around Mobile Suit Gundam SEED’s linked unit strategy.

Each deck contains a 50-card pre-built deck with resource tokens, bonus packs, and gameplay sheets that help players learn the game.

Bandai also did something special for the launch of these decks, teaming up with Gundam Assemble to give players some awesome miniatures for each deck. Place physically painted miniatures on Token cards for even more immersive gameplay!

Roadmap and Upcoming Releases

The first set, Newtype Rising (GD01), is slated to release on July 25th adding more cards and mechanics to enhance these starter decks or construct something entirely new. Bandai has also released a little more information regarding future releases:

  • Sept 26, 2025: Starter Deck Iron Bloom [ST05], themed on Iron‑Blooded Orphans, introducing a new purple card color

  • Oct 24, 2025: Starter Deck Clan Unity [ST06] (featuring Gundam GQuuuuuuX) alongside GD02 “Dual Impact” booster pack, which will bring Zeta Gundam, Gundam X, Gundam AGE, plus Iron‑Blooded Orphans and GQuuuuuuX into the card pool

  • Two more decks and the third booster (GD03) are expected in early 2026, with details pending

Why This Game Matters

One important thing to note on the launch of this new TCG is unlike its predecessors in One Piece and Union Arena, Gundam Card Game was released globally on July 11th. Every Gundam fan or TCG enthusiast is learning the game and finding new strategies. Tournaments and events will happen for everyone across the world around the same time, providing a unique opportunity to learn and grow with a fledgling TCG community.

In addition to learning with everyone around the world, Gundam Card Game has a wealth of mechanics and deck flavors right out of the gate. Color-paired decks and increasingly complex mechanics (especially with the introduction of purple cards in September) promise strategic variety and depth. Whether you’re planning to build around a starter deck or build something completely new, Gundam Card Game has you covered.

The collector appeal is massive for this game as well. Stunning artwork, full-art foil bonus cards in starter decks (including a chance at a full foil deck), and an immersive blend of miniature displays from Gundam Assemble, Gundam Card Game has everything a collector could want. Each new set will add new Gundam series and even more beautiful cards.

Final Thoughts

The Gundam Card Game marks a major milestone for the franchise—melding beloved mobile suits and pilots across timelines, with visually rich cards and dynamic gameplay. July 2025 brings your best entry point, but demand looks high. If you're interested in strategy, collecting, or Gundam nostalgia—this is a launch worth watching. I personally hope to see you guys at future events at The Gamers XP!
